Faith, Worship and Daily Life in the Brethren Community
Share

The foundation of life within the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church is faith in the Bible as the inspired Word of God. Plymouth Brethren beliefs emphasise daily prayer, regular Bible reading and shared worship. These practices guide personal conduct and reinforce moral integrity within families and the wider Church community.
Each Sunday, members gather in Gospel halls to celebrate the Lord’s Supper, a central expression of fellowship within the Plymouth Brethren faith. Daily worship often takes place within the home, strengthening family relationships and encouraging reflection on biblical teaching.
Some Plymouth Brethren rules are distinctive, including practices around shared meals. Members dine with those with whom they also share the Lord’s Supper, reflecting the importance of spiritual unity. While this practice is sometimes misunderstood, it forms part of a broader framework of faith-based living rather than social separation.
Modern life is approached thoughtfully. Technology plays an important role in business, education and communication. From digital classrooms to technology-driven enterprises, members engage with innovation while seeking to remain guided by Christian principles.
The Plymouth Brethren Christian Church also places importance on accountability and civic responsibility.
Public discussion sometimes incorrectly refers to our Church and its parishioners as the “Exclusive Brethren”. However, it is not a name our church goes by nor is it an accurate description of the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church or our community.
Across the world including Australia, New Zealand, the UK and the USA, the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church continues to focus on faith, family and community contribution. Together we seek to live quietly, faithfully and responsibly in the modern world.
